The Qatar Red Crescent Society (QRCS) has concluded its multi-speciality medical convoy at Bahri Teaching Hospital in Sudan, in collaboration with Sidra Medicine and Hamad Medical Corporation (HMC).
In just one week, the team performed 124 free surgeries, exceeding the initial target of 116 and helping more underprivileged patients.
The procedures included 49 general surgeries, 55 paediatric surgeries, and 20 urology surgeries — mostly major ones.
By providing free surgical services to 124 of the most vulnerable patients, the initiative eased their financial burden, reduced waiting lists, and supported broader efforts to improve access to healthcare in the country.
Other Sudanese specialists and consultants at the host hospital contributed to the surgeries, demonstrating the importance of co-ordinated medical and humanitarian efforts to serve patients and foster experience sharing.
Dr Mahmoud al-Badri, Minister of Health for Khartoum State, Dr Haider Mohamed Abdel-Nabi, Federal Director of Therapeutic Medicine, and Dr Ahmed al-Bashir, Director of the Bahri Teaching Hospital, attended the closing ceremony.
In a statement, Dr al-Daak emphasised that medical convoys were part of QRCS’s efforts to support Sudan’s healthcare system. He highlighted the importance of such initiatives in providing medical care and facilitating knowledge sharing between Qatari and Sudanese medics.
Dr al-Bashir hailed the mission as an excellent humanitarian initiative, noting that it revitalised the hospital’s role and services.
He thanked QRCS, the Sudanese Doctors Association in Qatar, HMC, Sidra Medicine, and the people and government of Qatar for their unwavering support for Sudan.
