Palestinian groups urge int'l action against prisoner death penalty law
Palestinian prisoner organizations have called for the repeal of a law imposing the death penalty on Palestinian prisoners, the unconditional release of all detainees, and independent international investigations into torture, medical neglect and deaths in Israeli detention.
In a joint statement marking the World Day Against the Death Penalty, the organizations accused Israeli occupation authorities of systematic abuse, including torture, starvation and denial of medical care.
They said at least 92 Palestinian prisoners and detainees whose identities were known had died in custody since October 2023, while others from Gaza were killed in the field or died under torture.
The groups urged the international community to take concrete legal and political action to protect detainees, establish the fate of missing prisoners and ensure accountability for violations.
