As part of the "Supporting Water Services in Gaza” project, the Qatar Red Crescent Society (QRCS) has been deploying water tankers daily to provide clean drinking water to up to 80,000 displaced families in camps and shelters across the blockade, at a total cost of $400,000.
Dr Akram Nassar, head of the QRCS’s representation office in Gaza, said the new water project came in response to the ongoing humanitarian crisis in Gaza, with tanker trucks deployed to distribute up to 6mn litres of potable water.
In the coming period, the QRCS has plans to launch several water and sanitation projects, including the provision of clean drinking water; rehabilitation of sewage networks at 25 shelter centres; supply of 500 portable toilets; construction of five water tanks equipped with latrines, washbasins, and taps; installation of high-quality solar panels to operate five water purification plants; and rehabilitation of a water well and provision of a solar-powered pump.
The estimated number of beneficiaries is approximately 108,000 people, with a total cost of more than QR 12mn.
