Fire Station to host panel on creative spaces and Qatar’s cultural landscape

Fire Station: Artist in Residence will host a panel discussion on September 1 titled "Creative Infrastructure: Spaces for Experimentation”, exploring how cultural institutions can support artists and creative professionals through spaces, programmes and opportunities for long-term development.

The discussion will coincide with the opening of applications for Fire Station’s intensive artist studies programme and will bring together cultural practitioners and academics to examine the role of creative institutions in strengthening Qatar’s cultural landscape.

The panel will explore how cultural programmes can provide supportive environments for experimentation, encourage interdisciplinary collaboration and create sustainable opportunities for artists, designers and other creative professionals to develop their practices and careers.

It will also examine the role of multidisciplinary initiatives in creating spaces for dialogue and the exchange of knowledge and experiences among practitioners from different creative fields.

The panellists are Dr Elena Seranin, museologist at Katara Art Centre; Marrakech Elizabeth Arbuckle, head of Public Programmes at M7; and artist and Associate Professor at Virginia Commonwealth University School of the Arts in Qatar, Mariam al-Hamid.

The session will be moderated by Rose Legney, head of Academic and Community Programs at Fire Station.

The discussion is intended to connect broader conversations about creative infrastructure with the practical experiences and programmes offered by cultural institutions to artists and other creative individuals. It will also consider how such initiatives can help attract talent and foster new artistic experiences in Qatar.

The panel discussion will take place on September 1, from 6pm-7.30pm at the Fire Station Auditorium in Doha.
