August 18, 2026 | 05:36 PM
The Saudi Cabinet renewed its firm rejection of repeated Iranian attacks on commercial ships and tankers, describing them as a dangerous escalation and a direct threat to maritime security and safety.
Chaired by Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, the Cabinet said the attacks constitute a serious violation of international laws and norms and a blatant challenge to a UN Security Council resolution requiring respect for freedom of navigation through the Strait of Hormuz.
It also noted the start of institutional and operational activation of a multinational defensive maritime coalition aimed at strengthening collective maritime security and protecting freedom of navigation and key sea routes and straits.
