The Palestinian Ministry of Health in the Gaza Strip has warned of an unprecedented health crisis resulting from the complete depletion of the operational capacity of the remaining oxygen generation plants in the Strip. This is due to the blockade and severe restrictions imposed by the Israeli occupation on the supply of medical supplies to hospitals.In a press statement today, the Ministry clarified that only 12 out of 34 oxygen plants remain operational under extremely complex technical conditions, hindering the ability to meet the basic needs of health facilities and medical service providers. It emphasized that these plants are operating beyond their maximum capacity amid worsening and frequent mechanical breakdowns.The Ministry noted that only four out of 30 oxygen cylinder filling devices remain in service, and they are vulnerable to stopping at any moment due to the inability to perform emergency maintenance resulting from a lack of resources and the ban on the entry of spare parts.The Ministry stressed that oxygen represents the primary lifeline for critical, life-saving departments inside hospitals as well as for patients at home. It called for the immediate opening of crossings to allow the entry of technical equipment and spare parts, and the urgent supply of new oxygen plants to avoid an imminent humanitarian catastrophe.This warning comes at a time when the health system in the Gaza Strip is experiencing a total collapse due to direct targeting, the ongoing blockade, and the exacerbated fuel crisis. This has resulted in the majority of hospitals and health centers going out of service, while medical teams face severe difficulties in saving the lives of the wounded and sick. This parallels the spread of infectious diseases and malnutrition among displaced persons, amid repeated international and UN appeals to pressure for breaking the siege and bringing in emergency aid and medical supplies.
