Inmates in Qatar’s penal and correctional institutions can now put a request straight to the Public Prosecution — by voice, in a language of their choosing, without an intermediary.
The Public Prosecution, in co-operation with the Ministry of Interior, launched a self-service platform yesterday that allows inmates to communicate directly and securely with prosecutors through AI-powered smart devices installed inside the institutions.Requests travel straight to the Public Prosecution for prompt, confidential review — a shift that strengthens the legal safeguards available to inmates, protects their rights and reinforces confidence in the justice system. Each inmate gets a secure, independent login.
Requests may be dictated rather than typed, in the inmate’s own language, and played back through a dedicated headset before submission — a design choice intended to keep the contents of a request private from everyone but the prosecutor who receives it.
The Sentences Enforcement Prosecution can receive those requests directly, rule on them, and notify the inmate of the outcome through the same channel. Inmates can also file any of the Public Prosecution’s general service requests, pull up their own case reports and the procedures taken on them, and read the prosecution’s replies in the same language in which they wrote.
The Public Prosecution said the initiative reflects Qatar’s longstanding commitment to promoting and protecting human rights. It also sits within the prosecution’s digital transformation strategy, which seeks to maximise the use of smart technologies to enhance judicial services, uphold the principles of justice and transparency, and fulfil its mandate to safeguard the rights of inmates in correctional institutions.
