HH the late Father Amir’s people-centred vision transformed Qatar: al-Yafei
Qatar’s transformation under His Highness the late Father Amir Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa al-Thani placed people at the heart of development and elevated the nation, Hour and Hour programme chief executive Tamani al-Yafei has said.
Al-Yafei said in a statement that the "wise policy” established by HH the late Father Amir transformed Qatar from a country dependent on limited resources into a pioneering nation with a significant economic, political and diplomatic presence regionally and internationally.
She said that his leadership, beginning when he assumed power in 1995, took the country into "a new phase of comprehensive development” through strategic programmes and projects that produced a qualitative leap across multiple sectors and established the foundations of sustainable development.
"The national renaissance witnessed by Qatar during his era extended to the political, economic, security, media, social, educational and health sectors,” al-Yafei said, adding that sport also received exceptional attention.
She described sport as "one of the pillars of national development” and a means of strengthening Qatar’s global standing.
The development of modern cities and sporting facilities, together with the hosting of major regional and international tournaments, helped pave the way for the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022, she said.
Al-Yafei described the tournament as a historic achievement for the Arab world and the region, reflecting the broader transformation achieved during HH the late Father Amir’s reign.
She added that HH Sheikh Hamad strengthened Qatar’s standing across the Arab and international arenas until it became "a developmental model to be emulated”.
That model, she said, balanced the preservation of the country’s Arab and Islamic identity with openness to knowledge and the adoption of the best global practices.
Al-Yafei stressed that HH the late Father Amir "placed human beings at the core of development” by investing in education, healthcare, infrastructure and the building of national capabilities.
She highlighted the launch of Qatar National Vision 2030 in 2008 under his directives, describing it as an ambitious roadmap for sustainable development and for balancing economic progress with the preservation of national identity and values.
Al-Yafei said that HH the late Father Amir crowned his developmental journey with the "historic step” of handing over power in 2013 to His Highness the Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad al-Thani.
She said that HH the Amir has continued the march of construction, renaissance and prosperity, leading Qatar towards further achievements at regional and international forums while continuing the path of the forefathers towards a prosperous nation and a brighter future.
