CMC stresses importance of protecting natural meadows as key ecological systems
The efforts to maintain and enhance the natural meadows around the country should continue to preserve this key component of the local environment, stressed the Central Municipal Council (CMC).
The CMC recently held its 52nd meeting as part of its seventh term, chaired by HE Mohamed bin Ali al-Athba, CMC Chairman. The session addressed a range of municipal services and utilities on its agenda, focused on public services, infrastructure, and key community issues affecting residents across the country.
During the session, the CMC members reviewed recommendations and a report submitted by the Committee on Services and Public Utilities regarding the preservation of the natural meadows (Rawda) and the necessary measures to curb environmental violations. The discussion underscored the importance of protecting Qatar’s natural habitats and enhancing public awareness of environmental sustainability to help in thriving biodiversity.
The Council also examined another report from the same committee concerning the development of Furjan (Neibourhoods) playground projects across various parts of the country. These neighbourhood playgrounds are part of broader efforts to improve community infrastructure, promote healthy lifestyles, and provide accessible recreational spaces for families and youth. In line with its ongoing focus on infrastructure development and service enhancement, the CMC has continued to monitor initiatives aimed at improving the quality of life for residents. In particular, the neighbourhood playground projects are considered of key importance to the residents of the targeted areas as they provide convenient and easily accessible outlets for practising sports activities.
Accordingly, the Council hosted HE Sheikh Dr Khalid bin Jabr al-Thani, chairman of Qatar Cancer Society (QCS), where he gave a presentation to brief the members on the services and activities of QCS. During his presentation, he highlighted the QCS’s activities, programmes, and initiatives implemented across different parts of Qatar. He also outlined its efforts in raising awareness about cancer prevention, as well as providing support services to the patients and their families.
CMC is concerned with improving public services and utilities and gives particular importance to community priorities, strengthening public services, and fostering collaboration with national institutions to support social development across the country.
