QMIC signs MoU with PIX Moving to advance smart mobility R&D in Qatar
Qatar Mobility Innovations Center (QMIC), owned by Qatar Univeristy, has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with PIX Moving, a subsidiary of Pixel Intelligence Co. based in Chigasaki, Japan.
The agreement marks a strategic step toward advancing smart mobility research and development in Qatar. The agreement was signed at the PIX Moving manufacturing facility in Chigasaki by Dr Mohammed Abdulaziz al-Sada, QMIC executive director, and Hiroaki Saito, manager of PIX Moving Japan.
The collaboration focuses on leveraging PIX Moving’s RoboBus platform to support the development and deployment of innovative, market-ready mobility solutions tailoured to Qatar’s local context. These solutions are designed to enhance the safety, intelligence, and sustainability of transportation systems, while addressing real-world operational and environmental requirements.
Dr al-Sada, commented: "This MoU with PIX Moving reflects our focus on building an autonomous mobility ecosystem that is practical, scalable, and aligned with Qatar’s real-world needs. By combining infrastructure assessment, applied R&D, and structured knowledge transfer, this collaboration supports both near-term innovation and the long-term development of national capabilities in autonomous driving.”
A core element of the MoU is the assessment of road and digital infrastructure readiness required to support next-generation mobility solutions. Through applied research and field validation, the partnership will identify infrastructure gaps and opportunities that can inform future planning and deployment across Qatar’s mobility ecosystem.
Beyond technology deployment, the collaboration emphasises applied R&D and knowledge exchange, contributing to the development of local research capabilities and supporting a resilient, innovation-driven smart mobility ecosystem. The initiative reflects QMIC's role in translating research into practical, scalable solutions that respond to national mobility needs.
This collaboration reflects QMIC's focus on developing solutions that respond directly to Qatar’s strategic mobility priorities, while strengthening local capabilities across research, development, and deployment. By anchoring advanced mobility R&D within the national ecosystem, QMIC continues to build sustainable local capacity, foster homegrown expertise, and ensure that innovation delivers long-term value for Qatar.
