Israeli Colonial plan hatched to cantonize Northern Jerusalem from Palestinian continuity, governorate warns

A dangerous colonial plan is being hatched by the Israeli occupation authority, which entails the construction of a settlement behemoth on the lands of Jerusalem International Airport north of occupied Jerusalem, encompassing approximately 9,000 settlement units at the heart of a densely populated Palestinian urban space, the Jerusalem Governorate warned in a statement Monday.The statement cautioned that this plan represents a perilous escalation in the colonization policy, which is directly intended to cantonize north of Jerusalem from its Palestinian continuity.The Palestinian geographic and demographic continuity between Jerusalem and Ramallah is being undermined through cantonization, in an attempt to impose new realities that erode any political horizon based on a two‑state solution, and prevent the development of East Jerusalem as an urban and political centre of the Palestinian state, the statement added.The statement further warned that the plan includes Kafr 'Aqab, Qalandia, Ar Ram, Beit Hanina, and Bir Nabala, posing a direct threat to the integrated Palestinian urban space north of Jerusalem, and deepening the cantonization policy imposed on the city and its peripheries.The vast majority of the plan territories have been classified as state territories since the period of the British Mandate, notwithstanding the existence of vast areas of Palestinian private land, the statement concluded.It added that the Israeli occupation intends to subject them to forcible unification and division procedures without the consent of their owners, in a clear breach of private property rights.The Governorate further caveated that carrying out this plan would lead to the creation of a colonial canton that separates north Jerusalem from its Palestinian periphery, ultimately leading to carving up the entire city.It confirmed that it would continue to expose this plan and address the international community and human rights institutions to let them know that this plan constitutes a flagrant violation of international law and resolutions of international legitimacy
