The powerful and principled addresses delivered by Qatar's Amir His Highness Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad al-Thani and Turkiye President Recep Tayyip Erdogan at the 80th session of the United Nations General Assembly yesterday underscore the deep alignment between the nations on critical regional and global issues, said Turkiye ambassador to Qatar, Dr Mustafa Goksu. In a statement, the envoy commended the speeches as a true reflection of Turkiye and Qatar’s steadfast commitment to upholding principles and standing by what is right, while raising the voice of justice in a world plagued by double standards. Both addresses reflected a shared moral compass, a commitment to diplomacy, and an unwavering defence of human dignity in the face of escalating injustice.Ambassador Goksu affirmed that both leaders strongly condemned the ongoing atrocities in Gaza, denouncing Israel’s deliberate targeting of civilians, journalists, and humanitarian workers. He noted that President Erdogan, by holding up images of devastation, underscored the daily reality of killings, destruction, hunger, displacement, and forced migration in Gaza, stressing that no justification exists for such brutality. Erdogan described the devastation as "the lowest point of humanity.”Ambassador Goksu further highlighted that His Highness Sheikh Tamim decried the Israeli strike on Doha, describing it not only as a heinous attack targeting Qatar’s sovereignty but also as an act of "state terrorism” and a direct assault on diplomacy. The envoy underlined that President Erdogan, in a powerful display of solidarity, again denounced Israel’s aggression towards Qatar, calling it "shameful” and proof that "the Israeli government is completely out of control,” while praising Qatar’s principled stance in the face of escalating threats.Dr Goksu added that His Highness the Amir Sheikh Tamim reaffirmed Qatar’s commitment to resolving conflicts in Gaza, Ukraine, Africa, and beyond, and that President Erdogan praised Qatar’s global mediation efforts as "essential,” extending Turkiye’s appreciation for Qatar’s tireless work to bring warring parties together and foster co-operation.This recognition underscores the strategic alignment between Turkiye and Qatar in promoting peace through diplomacy, dialogue, and humanitarian leadership.Ambassador Goksu stated that both leaders emphasised the urgent need to restore the legitimacy of the international system through dialogue and co-operation. President Erdogan underlined that "there is no winner in war and no loser in just peace,” while His Highness Sheikh Tamim emphasised that the essence of Qatar’s diplomacy is the pursuit of peaceful solutions. The Turkish envoy stressed that the leaders’ statements reflect a strategic and humanitarian approach to foreign policy — one that prioritises peace, stability, sovereignty, and the dignity of humanity. The ambassador concluded that for the peoples of Turkiye and Qatar, this alliance is more than strategic — it is a reflection of shared values, courage, and an unwavering commitment to peace.
