The 20th session of the Arab civil defense and civil protection summit will be held in Baghdad on August 27 and 28, with the participation of heads of civil defense agencies from Arab countries.
Nuaas Sabah Shakir, director of media at the Iraqi Civil Defense Directorate, stated that all preparations to host the conference have been completed.
He explained that Iraq is one of the founding members of the Arab civil protection office in Tunisia, having taken part in its first conference held from June 23 to 25, 1987, and has since played an active role through regular participation and by presenting studies and scientific research that enriched Arab joint efforts in this field.
He explained that Iraq's membership in the office reflects its commitment to exchanging expertise, keeping pace with scientific and technical developments in protection and rescue, and strengthening international coordination to face disasters.
These efforts include Iraq's rescue team mission to Turkiye after the 2023 earthquake, and its recent response to Syria's request for assistance in extinguishing fires in Latakia two months ago, he added.
