Al Shamal recorded their second successive win in the 2025-26 season Qatar Stars League (QSL) beating a 10-man Al Rayyan 4-2 in an eventful match at the Jassim Bin Hamad Stadium Friday.Al Rayyan’s Mohamed Surag was flashed with the red card in 45+3 minute after he stepped on the toes of Mohammed Omar of Al Shamal. Al Rayyan led 2-1 at half time. The opening half saw many exciting moments with three goals being scored within four minutes and the red card being shown four minutes later.Earlier in the 32nd minute a ‘dramatic’ Al Rayyan goal was also over-ruled after a VAR check for offside. Roger Guedes weaved his way through and a defender then kicked the ball to Al Shamal goalkeeper Babacar Seck who fumbled and the ball went out for Guedes and Surag to collide before the latter managed to push it in. The referee after the VAR check said no-goal because of offside.Al Shamal opened the goal-scoring in the 40th minute after the ball was grabbed off a counter-kick in the midfield and soon Baghdad Bounedjah provided a cross for Mohamed Rafiq Omar to score from the left.Al Rayyan hit back in the 42nd minute as Ahmed Alaaeldin headed home after David Garcia volleyed a cross lob to him following a free kick.Alaaeldin was back to score another in the 44th minute after he was given a fine pass by Gavin Pereira who broke into the danger area from the right.Al Shamal found the equalizer post break in the 56th minute after Omar won a battle for the ball from Abdalla Yousif near the goalline and sent in a cross which was deflected into his own goal by Al Rayyan’s Gregore de Magalhaes Silva Favero. The tussle to break the deadlock continued for long before Al Shamal won a penalty following a VAR check in 90+1 minute. Al Rayyan’s Guedes had made a slide to reach the ball inside the ‘D’ and in the process spiked the shin of Al Shamal’s Tamer Seyam, who was also going for the ball. The referee signaled for the spot and Bounedjah converted the kick with the ball slipping past a diving Al Rayyan goalkeeper Samy Beldy (3-2).Three minutes later (90+4’), Bounedjah provided a fine assist to Omar Ali, who flicked the ball past a hapless goalkeeper Beldy to make the score 4-2 in his team’s favour.Al Gharafa 2 Al Arabi 1Al Gharafa continued their winning streak with a 2-1 defeat of Al Arabi in the highly anticipated match at the Al Rayyan’s Ahmad Bin Ali Stadium Friday.Kenyan international Michael Olunga drew the first blood for Al Arabi when he fired home from close range off a precise diagonal pass from Rodri Sánchez.Joselu later restored parity for Al Gharafa with a brilliant goal off an overhead pass from Aron Gunnarsson, which saw the Spanish striker showcasing a masterclass in ball control, fending off two Al Arabi defenders before unleashing a left-footed shot from the left side of the box.A sensational goal-line clearance by Seydou Sanu in the 35th minute prevented what could have been Olunga's second of the match after the gangling striker had gotten a perfect header from Abdulla Essa Al-Sulaiti's cross. The second half witnessed Yacine Brahimi securing the lead and eventually the match winner for Al Gharafa from a free kick taken from a difficult angle to the right, which got the whole stadium roaring in applause.Brahimi was named the player of the match for his outstanding performance.
