The General Cleanliness Department at the Ministry of Municipality removed more than 41,959 tonnes of random waste from various municipalities in July.The department also removed 3,357 damaged tyres, 2,469 carcasses of dead animals, 196 abandoned vehicles, and 61 damaged signboards.The department further provided 5,881 public services, issued 803 violations of the Public Hygiene Law, supplied 309 waste containers and 1,085 recycling containers, and washed 75,997 containers.The work carried out by the Beaches and Islands Section of the department resulted in the removal of 553.71 tonnes of mixed waste from beaches, 4.34 tonnes of recyclable waste, 163.26 tonnes of seaweed, 230.70 tonnes of wood waste, 9.90 tonnes of coal and sand, as well as 95 fishing cages, 62 fishing nets, and 6.64 tonnes of iron.The department’s Awareness Team distributed recycling containers to 973 homes in different areas and conducted 12 awareness workshops and lectures on cleanliness in co-operation with several other entities.
