Egyptian FM discusses regional De-escalation with Iranian counterpart, IAEA chief

Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty discussed with his Iranian counterpart, Abbas Araqchi, and Director General of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), Rafael Grossi, ways to de-escalate tensions in the region. The Discussions, held in separate phone calls, also addressed resuming cooperation between Iran and the IAEA and reviving negotiations on Iran's nuclear program, in support of the political and diplomatic track.The Egyptian Ministry of Foreign Affairs said in a statement on Wednesday that Abdelatty, during the call with his Iranian counterpart, emphasized the importance of adhering to diplomatic paths and creating the necessary conditions for resuming cooperation with the IAEA. This will contribute to strengthening mutual trust and creating a climate conducive to achieving regional security and stability.The IAEA Director General, in a call with the Egyptian Foreign Minister, reviewed his assessment of the recent visit of the IAEA's Deputy Director General to Tehran, and discussed ways to restore trust between the IAEA and Iran and resume cooperation between them. He also discussed ways to support cooperation in the field of peaceful uses of nuclear energy between the IAEA and countries in the region, thus enhancing the IAEA's role in maintaining regional and international security and stability.
