In an atmosphere that evokes the fragrance of history and the scents of ancient trade, the Museum of Islamic Art (MIA) is organising a family day titled "The Spice Journey: Exploring Trade Routes in the Islamic World” next Saturday from 3pm-5pm at the museum’s atrium. No prior registration is required. The event, which coincides with the exhibition "A Seat at the Table”, will offer families a rich interactive experience, highlighting the pivotal role that spices played in shaping trade and cultural routes throughout the Islamic era.It will showcase how these precious ingredients were transported from East to West, the stories they carry, and their impact on people’s daily lives, cuisine, and art.The event draws on the MIA’s collections and accompanying historical texts, along with unique displays, to provide an educational opportunity for children and parents to understand this ancient trading tradition. It also includes innovative hands-on activities that allow participants to interact with a variety of organic spices and learn about their origins, methods of use, and their distinct flavours. This activity is part of a series of interactive programmes offered by Qatar Museums, aiming to enhance family learning and connect audiences with their cultural heritage in fun and practical ways.
