The Department of Wildlife Development at the Ministry of Environment and Climate Change (MoECC) has held a co-ordination meeting with United Development Company to discuss the awareness plan regarding the risks of the invasive myna bird and the mechanism for redistributing bird traps within the targeted areas on The Pearl Island.The meeting is part of the national programme to control the population of the invasive myna bird in Qatar's environment.During the meeting, the joint efforts to raise public awareness about the negative impact of the myna bird on biodiversity were reviewed.The best mechanisms for redistributing traps within the locations of a high presence of the bird were discussed, aiming at reducing its numbers and minimising its negative effects on the local ecosystems.In the meantime, both parties stressed the importance of strengthening co-operation between the public and private sectors to support the national efforts in environmental protection field, achieve sustainability goals, and maintain ecological balance in the country.
