- Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty held separate phone calls with his Iranian counterpart Abbas Araghchi and US President's Special Envoy for the Middle East, Steve Witkoff, to discuss ways to contain the military escalation between Israel and Iran.In a statement released on Friday, the Egyptian Ministry of Foreign Affairs said that during both calls, Minister Abdelatty reiterated the need to exert every possible effort to de-escalate tensions, reach a ceasefire, and seize the available diplomatic avenues to contain the rapidly evolving situation and avert a broader regional flare-up.He also stressed the importance of preventing the conflict from expanding and dragging the region into a state of widespread chaos, the consequences of which would spare no one. The minister reaffirmed the necessity of exhausting all diplomatic and political channels to reach a sustainable agreement on Iran's nuclear program.
