Reinforcing its dedication to social responsibility, Malabar Gold & Diamonds (MGD), the sixth largest jewellery retailer globally, has announced the community welfare activities that the brand will be carrying out for the month of Ramadan.These efforts will be carried out alongside the company’s year-round Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) programmes across its 13 global markets, a statement said Monday.Over 250,000 Iftar meals will be distributed across the UAE, Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, Qatar, Oman, Kuwait, Malaysia, Singapore, the US, the UK, Canada and Australia.In Qatar, Iftar meals will be distributed amongst labourers in Wakra, Wukair, Shahaniya, Jabiya, Al Khor and Markhiya.The meal distribution campaign will be conducted in association with Qatar Sparsham, Youth Forum, Cultural Forum, Centre for Indian Community, KMCC, Global Kerala Pravasi association, Indian Community Benevolent Forum, and Focus Qatar."The Hunger Free World project has been one of Malabar Group’s most important initiatives since our inception in 1993,” said Malabar Group chairman M P Ahammed. "Spanning 85 locations globally, our efforts to eradicate hunger are further boosted during the holy month of Ramadan.”"Our Ramadan welfare programmes are driven by the dedication and compassion of our entire team," vice-chairman Abdul Salam K P said."Through our large-scale Iftar meal distribution, we aim to make a significant impact and inspire other organisations to embrace similar initiatives,” MGD managing director (international operations) Shamlal Ahamed said.ESG initiatives have been a commitment of the Malabar Group since its inception in 1993, with 5% of net profits set aside towards such initiatives in each country of operations.The focus areas are health, hunger-free world, housing, education, women empowerment, and environment, the statement added.
