The Doha Institute for Graduate Studies (DI) celebrated Qatar National Day (QND), witnessing broad participation from the its academic, administrative, and student communities.Organised by the Communications and Public Relations Department in the DI, the event was held outdoors and featured a range of heritage and folkloric performances reflecting the Qatari identity, most notably the Ardha, one of the most iconic traditional arts.The programme also included a variety of social and cultural activities that encouraged interaction and engagement among attendees. These activities comprised an interactive question-and-answer session on the history of the State of Qatar with valuable prizes, as well as poetry recitations and national songs. The celebration also showcased a collection of classic vintage Qatari cars and falcons, embodying key aspects of Qatar’s authentic heritage. In addition, a lunch of traditional Qatari cuisine was offered, giving attendees the opportunity to enjoy local dishes.DI president Dr Abdelwahab El-Affendi congratulated the leadership and people of Qatar on National Day, celebrated annually on December 18. He emphasised that Qatar has always been, and will continue to be, a hospitable country and a leader in its stances, wherever it is seen and wherever it is cherished. He noted that the sense of reassurance, security, and stability enjoyed by the country has made it one of the safest nations in the world, adding that this occasion represents a wonderful opportunity to celebrate, spread joy, and enjoy an event that brings together the Institute’s community around shared values of belonging and appreciation.Nasema Abdeen, director of the Communications and Public Relations Department, expressed her pride in hosting this carnival-style celebration at the DI with the participation of its students, faculty members, staff, and alumni. She noted that the diversity of nationalities and cultures within the Institute provides an important opportunity to introduce Qatari identity and its rich heritage, and to deepen understanding of the history and culture of Qatari society.Abdeen explained that the celebration had a wide variety of live performances and heritage-based activities aimed at reviving authentic Qatari values and popular traditions.
