NHRC holds consultative meeting with co-ordinators of communities' offices

The National Human Rights Committee (NHRC) held a consultative meeting on work environment in Qatar, an analysis of 2024 and a forecast for 2025, with co-ordinators of the communities' offices at the NHRC's premises in Doha, namely the African, Indian, Nepalese, and Filipino communities.In a statement Monday, NHRC highlighted that the co-ordinators emphasised that over the past year, the work environment in Qatar has witnessed a remarkable progress through enforcing a series of comprehensive legislative adjustments.These reforms were intended to promote the workers' rights, ensure their protection and maximise production, update labour laws, apply flexible systems in the public sector, in addition to establishing effective regulations in the private sector, thereby leading to a positive impact on economy and community and boosting Qatar's standing as an enduring and attractive work environment, the statement added.The statement highlighted that the meeting discussed workers' aspirations for advancing the work environment through enforcing new overhauls and strategies to enhance integration between the public and private sectors, with a sharp focus on elevating the occupational health and safety standards to promote Qatar's stature as a leading destination for work in the region.The consultative meeting deliberated on the fourth goal of NHRC's Strategic Plan 2024-2030, which stresses the importance of promoting widespread human rights awareness and building capacity across staff, workers, and companies, highlighted NHRC.It added that the meeting tackled the executive activities that intersect with the role of labour-intensive communities in Qatar in alignment with the fourth goal of the NHRC's strategic plan, through setting a plan to include human rights in programs at the Institute of Public Administration based on the memorandum of understanding between the parties, alongside coordination with the Ministry of Labor and the Qatar Chamber of Commerce and Industry to strengthen human rights awareness.The statement noted that the aforementioned meeting highlighted the importance of capitalizing on the NHRC's expertise on institutionalizing numerous human rights activities, along with the issued evidence on handling complaints, including human rights in health services, as well as educational institutions and so forth. It discussed the foremost joint activities that NHRC will organise with the co-ordinators in the coming period.In May 2015, NHRC opened offices for labour-intensive communities at its premises in recognition of the need to strengthen its enduring commitment to safeguarding human rights, with a particular emphasis on the protection of workers' rights.
