The Ministry of Education and Higher Education (MoEHE)’s Educational Training and Development Centre has launched its annual training season for administrative and academic staff, coinciding with the beginning of the 2026-27 academic year. Accordingly, the centre has resumed professional licensing programmes for teachers, which account for around 50% of its total training portfolio. The initiative aims to enhance professional competencies, support career advancement and improve educational performance across government schools and ministry departments. Abdulrahman Jassim al-Baker, head of the centre’s Educational Training Department, said the centre had completed extensive logistical and training preparations to accommodate school leaders, teaching staff, administrative employees, and ministry personnel. Within two weeks of the training season’s launch, more than 1,000 participants had attended courses across around 80 training rooms. The centre offers a diverse collection of strategic, specialised, and elective programmes aligned with the ministry’s priorities and Qatar’s Third National Development Strategy. Courses cover subjects such as science, mathematics, artificial intelligence (AI) technologies and modern communication skills. The programmes are designed to empower employees, support career progression and prepare staff for new professional roles. The centre has trained more than 33,000 participants in previous years and aims to expand its reach this academic year while maintaining high-quality training. Al-Baker noted that professional licensing remains a key component of the centre’s activities, as these programmes run throughout the academic year across both semesters, ensuring continuous professional development for teachers from the beginning to the end of the school year. Training requirements vary by level, ranging from 60 hours for the first level, to 45 hours, 30 hours and 15 hours for the second, third and fourth levels, respectively. The centre co-ordinates closely with schools to prepare teachers’ schedules based on approved training dates, enabling participation during official working hours while ensuring training activities do not disrupt the continuity of school operations.
