Qatar chairs GCC UN permanent representatives meeting with ICRC head

Within the framework of Qatar's presidency of the 44th session of the Supreme Council of the Gulf Co-operation Council (GCC), HE the Permanent Representative of Qatar to the UN Sheikha Alya Ahmed bin Saif al-Thani, held a meeting that brought together the Permanent Representatives of the GCC countries to the UN and President of the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) Mirjana Spoljaric Egger.During the meeting, which was held at the headquarters of the permanent delegation in New York, the ICRC president provided a detailed count on the important role of the committee in delivering humanitarian aid to civilians in the Gaza Strip and Sudan, in response to the deteriorating humanitarian conditions in the two regions.For her part, HE Sheikha Alya affirmed that the GCC countries welcomed the joint work and co-ordination with the ICRC to expand the scope of humanitarian aid and facilitate its delivery to civilians in need, especially in light of the recent statements of the UN Secretary-General about the inevitability of famine in northern Gaza.
