1,315 participants for 7th edition of Katara award for Qur'an recitation

A total of 1,315 participants will take part in Katara's seventh award for Qur'an recitation.Organised by the General Administration of Endowments at the Ministry of Endowments and Islamic Affairs (Awqaf) and the Cultural Village Foundation-Katara, the award aims to encourage Muslims to pivot towards reading the Holy Qur'an proficiently, in terms of recitation and understanding.The launching of the seventh edition, according to a statement from Awqaf, was announced in the presence of Katara general manager Prof Dr Khalid bin Ibrahim al-Sulaiti and director of General Directorate of Endowments Sheikh Dr Khalid bin Mohamed bin Ghanem al-Thani.Sheikh Khalid praised the award organisers saying it’s distinguished by its good organisation and showcasing of talents. "It has gained wide fame and resonance at the global level," he said, adding that the award is sponsored by the General Administration of Endowments for the award through the Endowment Bank for the service of the Qur’an and Sunnah.Al-Sulaiti thanked the continued endowment support and generous sponsorship of the competition. He explained that the participation in the award’s competitions has increased each year. "1,273 contestants took part in the last edition and in the current version it is attended by 1,315 participants. This reflects the global status it has achieved. The increasing number indicates the breadth of participation," he said, adding that the competition will be telecast by Qatar TV, the media partner of the programme.
