ICJ to deliver ruling on genocide case against Israeli entity on Friday

The International Court of Justice (ICJ) announced that it will deliver on Friday its decision on the request for the indication of provisional measures submitted by South Africa in the case against the Israeli entity concerning the Application of the Convention on the Prevention and Punishment of the Crime of Genocide in the Gaza Strip.The court said that it will hold a public sitting at 1:00 pm on Friday, The Hague time, during which the President of the Court Joan Donoghue will read the Courts Order.On Dec. 29, 2023, South Africa filed an application instituting proceedings against Israel concerning violations of its obligations under the Convention on the Prevention and Punishment of the Crime of Genocide (the "Genocide Convention") in relation to Palestinians in the Gaza StripIn its Application, South Africa also requested the Court to indicate provisional measures in order to "protect against further, severe and irreparable harm to the rights of the Palestinian people under the Genocide Convention" and "to ensure Israel's compliance with its obligations under the Genocide Convention not to engage in genocide, and to prevent and to punish genocide."
