Voters should assume their responsibility in selecting the proper candidate from their constituency in the upcoming seventh round of elections to the Central Municipal Council (CMC), a number of Qatari citizens have stressed.Speaking to local Arabic daily Arrayah, they suggested that the selection process should be mainly based on the efficiency and qualification of the candidate and his or her campaign programme and how practical it is. They reiterated the important role of the CMC in promoting the demands of the citizens regarding the development and upgrade of various municipal services and infrastructure in their areas across the country.Jabir al-Kubaisi said that the CMC elections over the past years have increased the awareness of citizens considerably and enhanced their knowledge about such democratic practices. He also called on the winning candidates to maintain active communication with their voters and discuss with them their demands for development while working out effective solutions. Besides, he said that there is a need for a special recreation project for the elderly and people with special needs that the CMC members should promote.Ali al-Zakiba advised voters to select candidates based on their efficiency and practical programmes, considering this as a national duty. The winners should be serious about their responsibility and promote the interests of their voters.Saqr al-Muftah pointed out that CMC candidates should be honest and realistic about their campaign promises and tell their voters only the things they can really achieve through the council. He said that he prefers candidates who enjoys active social roles and careers which will make his or her job easier in the future.Hamad al-Obaidly said that the candidate should approach the people of his or her constituency to have a closer look on the issues that interest and trouble them most regarding municipal services.Nasser al-Malki said that he prefers candidates who have new and innovative ideas for municipal development and can suggest new ways of resolving related issues. They should be able to actively follow up on the development and upgrade of such services for the good of the inhabitants of the constituency, he added.
