Qatari companies study to enter privatisation programme in Kazakhstan: Sheikh Faisal

HE the chairman of Qatari Businessmen Association (QBA) Sheikh Faisal bin Qassim al-Thani said that the Qatari businessmen have been exploring investment opportunities in Central Asian countries over the past years through mutual visits and bilateral meetings between businessmen and private sector companies.In a statement to Qatar News Agency (QNA), he underlined His Highness the Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad al-Thani's visit to Kazakhstan, in which Qatari investments are estimated at nearly $113mn, of which $100mn belong to Qatar Investment Authority in the field of infrastructure, and $13mn for Qatar Fund for Development.He pointed out that Qatar Investment Authority has initiated financing for the Infrastructure Fund of the Republic of Kazakhstan with approximately $100mn. Furthermore, there are very strong relations with Qatar Fund for Development (QFFD), which funded a school project named after His Highness the Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad al-Thani, in the capital city of Astana with a value of $13mn, he added.HE Sheikh Faisal bin Qassim al-Thani revealed that the Qatari companies are studying participation in the privatisation program in Kazakhstan, particularly in the energy sector. Delegations from Kazakhstan have presented around 40 investment projects worth approximately $4.6bn to the Qatari private sector, government-owned companies and private companies in various sectors, including agriculture, mining, petrochemicals, tourism infrastructure development, livestock breeding, dairy production, infrastructure development, and other projects.HE Sheikh Faisal bin Qassim al-Thani highlighted the importance of establishing a joint business council between businessmen from both countries. This would facilitate communication, enhance understanding of available opportunities, and foster effective partnerships between Qatari and Kazakhstani companies.
