As part of the activities and events of Katara - Culture Village during the holy month of Ramadan, general manager Prof Dr Khalid bin Ibrahim al-Sulaiti, on Monday evening opened an arts exhibition on respecting parents at building 18, hall no 2.The exhibition hosts around 22 paintings by nine artists on various aspects of the subject using various styles.Katara hosted special celebrations to mark the World Theatre Day, which falls on March 27, at Katara Drama Theatre. These included reading out a message and a performance of Ghajar Al Bahr (Sea Gypsies) play by Qatar Theatre troupe in addition to the forum "Qatari Theatre between reality and expectation) with the participation of a number of prominent artists and fans.These celebrations were attended by Prof Dr al-Sulaiti alongside HE the Minister of State and Qatar National Library president Dr Hamad bin Abdulaziz al-Kawari, Ministry of Culture's assistant undersecretary for cultural affairs Dr Ghanim bin Mubarak al-Ali, and other dignitaries.The forum recommended that it is necessary to expedite the process of creating a society that includes everyone from the theatrical professions, including playwrights, directors and actors, to find solutions for the challenges facing the Qatari theatre.The forum recommended that theatre activities should be reintroduced at schools and clubs and create a dedicate theatre for young amateurs while increasing the subsidies and support for private theatrical troupes.Katara is also organising a number of activities and entertainment programmes on respecting parents in co-operation with the Mother and Teacher Centre for educational consultations.Tomorrow (Thursday), the qualifying phase for Katara Ramadan Chess Championship will be launched in co-operation with Qatar Chess Federation. Katara PlayStation tournament has seen 200 participants so far.Katara has also started preparing Ramadan baskets and packages to help the needy families in co-operation with Qatar Charity, Qatari Farmers Forum, and others.
