AFG College with the University of Aberdeen continued their theme of community outreach events by holding a workshop on effective budgeting and planning techniques. The event was designed to address pertinent issues concerning cost analysis, budget preparation and performance management. The workshop was predominantly aimed at middle and senior executives who were keen to understand the fundamentals of budgeting in the business environment, which allows them to make key strategic decisions within their organisation. The sessions were led by AFG College head of discipline for Accounting Finance, Mohammad Abrar Hussain, MSc postgraduate programme lead, Shahadat Hossain, and Laila Mahran.During the sessions the facilitators explored various elements of the budgeting process, performance measurement, sources of finance and investment appraisal techniques. Participants were also introduced to the concepts around use of budgeting as a planning and control tool which is essential in successful implementation of the corporate and business strategy in achieving the organisational objectives.Hussain, said: "It is always encouraging to see so many members of the community join one of our workshops that we hold on campus. I was so surprised with the level of uptake for the workshop. We were really impressed with the quality and aptitude of the participants, who were all eager to partake in discussion and engage with facilitators and their peers. These community outreach workshops allow us to engage with a wider audience and help in contributing to the knowledge that senior decision makers need when making decisions and developing strategy at their organisations.”AFG College will be delivering the course again in the new academic year to allow more Qatar-based professionals to benefit from these important workshops.
