Turkish ambassador Dr Mehmet Mustafa Goksu hosted an Iftar gathering at Rixos Gulf Hotel Doha for diplomats in Qatar. The envoy greeted the invitees on the occasion of the holy month of Ramadan and delivered a speech on the occasion."It is a great honour for me to host you all during this blessed month of Ramadan. It is a time of reflection and togetherness, strengthening the bonds of family and friends, but also between us all in our global village. In other words, Iftar social gatherings, such as this, are a reminder about the importance of sharing; not only food and water, but also our hearts,” he said.He expressed gratitude to Qatar, its institutions, people and residents, "for providing us with unparalleled brotherly support”.He noted that 2023 marks the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Turkiye and Qatar. Also, Turkiye is celebrating the centenary of its founding this year along with the 500th anniversary of its Ministry of Foreign Affairs."To celebrate these auspicious milestones, the embassy of the Turkiye in Doha had originally planned several events, yet the earthquake has forced us to postpone and focus on rehabilitation and reconstruction,” the ambassador said. "As the wounds of the disaster gradually heal, with the invaluable support of our Qatari brothers and other foreign friends, some of these events will be back on track in the coming days. Insha’Allah.”Referring to the Turkiye and Syria earthquakes, he paid tribute to the victims of the disaster in both countries and highlighted the solidarity and support that Turkiye has received from all over the world."Of course, the scale of the disaster was monumental. Yet, so too was the magnitude of international solidarity we received, which is unprecedented in our history. We truly value this deeply touching display of humanity and wish that it will further continue with the generous spirit of Ramadan,” he said. "At this point, we are very grateful to Qatar, its institutions, people and residents, and also to the other brotherly countries, for providing the generous support to Turkiye, and for standing side by side with us, to alleviate the suffering of the earthquake victims.”"In conclusion, I pray, during this holy month of Ramadan, for peace and prosperity across our global village. It is our sincere wish that the plague of war, famine, poverty, suffering, prejudice and intolerance be eradicated from the planet,” he concluded.
