WHO regional director briefed on services of HMC's Tobacco Control Centre

Hamad Medical Corporation’s (HMC) Tobacco Control Centre received on Sunday Dr Ahmed al-Mandhari, World Health Organisation (WHO) regional director for the Eastern Mediterranean, who was accompanied by Dr Rayana Bou Haka, WHO representative to Qatar.During the visit, Dr al-Mandhari met with all staff members at the centre, where he was briefed on services provided.Dr Ahmad al-Mulla, head of HMC's Tobacco Control Centre, said: "During the meeting, we presented an overview of the activities, services, plans and future programmes of the Tobacco Control Centre. The discussion touched on ways of cooperation with the World Health Organisation to support these programmes and plans, especially when taking into consideration that our centre offers its services to all countries of the eastern mediterranean region.”At the end of the meeting, Dr al-Mandhari confirmed that necessary measures will be taken to provide technical support to the centre to facilitate its work and maximise the benefits from the services it provides. In 2017, HMC’s Tobacco Control Centre became the first centre in Qatar and the GCC region to be designated by WHO as a collaborating centre for treating tobacco dependence.
