The 2023 Qatar Kite Festival will be held from March 16 to 18 at MIA park hills adjacent to the ‘7’ sculpture by Richard Serra, a location which provides breathtaking panoramic views of West Bay, Doha’s coastline, and surrounding landscapes, a statement said Friday.A dazzling array of uniquely patterned kites - by teams from France, India, Indonesia, Italy, Germany, Switzerland, Thailand,Turkey, the UK and the US - will be flown in a magnificent display with their LED features lighting up the skies of Doha at night.The event with Qatar Museums as the venue partner will also include activities for children, such as an inflatables games area (adjacent to the entrance of MIA), and two kite-building workshops (located in front of Al Riwaq gallery and on the alley of MIA park hills).The 2023 Qatar Kite Festival is an initiative of Safe Flight Solutions, the organiser of the Qatar Balloon Festival Series, and asfary.com, the statement explained.The workshops will be led by Iqbal Husain, a seasoned kite-flying professional, who at age five learnt how to build Pakistani fighter kites, and now crafts traditional kites made from bamboo and recycled Japanese washi paper. Children of all ages will learn how to use eco-friendly paper and biodegradable materials to draw, build, and paint their own kites, and once finished, will watch them be flown by professionals.The timings are 3pm to 9pm on March 16, 2pm to 9pm on March 17 and 11am to 9pm on March 18, the statement added.
