The Marine Protection Department at the Ministry of Environment and Climate Change (MoECC) has released a number of slender-billed gulls that were seized during an attempt to bring them into the country in an illegal manner.The department has stressed that the sales or transport of all wild birds and animals is banned in Qatar without obtaining a prior permit from the ministry, and anyone who violates this will be subject to legal prosecution. The MoECC said such laws and regulations are meant to preserve the local environment and to enhance biodiversity in the country, and apply to local animals as well as those migrating or transiting through the country.
