The Arab League Educational, Cultural and Scientific Organization (ALECSO) held a regional consultative seminar on literacy and adult education.
The seminar aims to promote consultation and sharing of expertise between officials and experts in the field of adult education, in order to contribute to the transformation of education so that it is more equitable and inclusive for all.
The seminar brought together the UNESCO Institute for Lifelong Learning, the Arab Bureau of Education for the Gulf States and the UNESCO Regional Center of Quality and Excellence in Education, as well as bodies, universities and institutions for adult education from across the Arab world.
During the seminar, academics and experts sought to deepen thinking about the procedures and measures necessary to promote literacy programmes and adult learning and their education from the perspective of lifelong learning. They also dealt with the appropriate policies, strategies and mechanisms for transforming adult learning and education in the Arab countries, as well as about the role of adult learning and education in facing current challenges such as climate change, health and economic crises, technological shifts and population change.
On Jan 8 of each year, ALECSO marks the Arab Literacy Day, which was approved by Arab Network for Literacy and Adult Education.
