A strong snow storm hit on Monday parts of southern California, the most populous and third largest state in the US, while the US Meteorological Department warns that the storm will continue for several days.Stormy weather is expected to sweep across a wide area of the US, from Colorado to Minnesota, and from Monday until Wednesday, with snowfall alongside strong winds and freezing rain.The weather service warned that the heavy snow will bring significant impacts to many areas across the country, and warned of dangerous travel conditions in the mountains, with an additional 1-2 feet of snow possible in the Sierra Nevada.The Highway Patrol said a section of the California Highway was closed due to heavy snow in the Lake Tahoe area.Since Friday, the Greater Lake Tahoe area has seen up to 48 inches of snow, the weather service said, while nearly 22,000 customers around the lake announced the absence of electricity.The weather service said severe thunderstorms will be capable of producing tornadoes and damaging winds.It is noteworthy that the American West often faces heavy snowfall and heavy rain, which causes hundreds of flights to be canceled, roads closed, and residents evacuated to escape the threat of flooding.
