Doha, Al Shamal and Al Shahaniya municipalities witnessed year-on-year growth in building permits issued in November 2022, even as those issued in the country overall were on the decline in the review period, according to the official data.A total of 645 building permits were issued in the country in November this year with Al Rayyan, Doha and Al Wakra constituting about 73% of the total, according to figures released by the Planning and Statistics Authority (PSA). The total building permits however fell 19.6% and 34% year-on-year and month-on-month respectively in the review period.The total building permits issued in Doha saw a 19.8% surge on a yearly basis, followed by Al Shamal (6.7%), Al Shahaniya (6.3%) and Al Rayyan (0.5%); even as those in Umm Slal shrank 64.6%, Al Daayen (54.4%), Al Wakra (25.8%) and Al Khor (9.1%).The building permits data is of particular importance as it is considered an indicator for the performance of the construction sector which in turn occupies a significant position in the national economy.Of the total number of new building permits issued, Al Rayyan constituted 207 permits or 32% of the total, Doha 157 (24%), Al Wakra 112 (17%), Al Daayen 78 (12%), Al Khor 30 (5%), Umm Slal 28 (4%), Al Shahaniya 17 (3%) and Al Shamal 16 (2%).On a monthly basis, the total building permits in Umm Slal witnessed a 56% plunge, followed by Al Daayen (49%), Al Wakra (39%), Doha (32%), Al Shahaniya (23%), Al Rayyan (22%), Al Khor (14%) and Al Shamal (11%).The new building permits (residential and non-residential) constituted 37% (236 permits) of the total issued in November 2022, followed by additions 60% (384 permits) and fencing 4% (25 permits).Of the new residential buildings permits issued, villas topped the list, accounting for 87% (138 permits) of the total, apartments 7% (11) and dwellings of housing loans 5% (eight).Among the non-residential sector, commercial structures accounted for 32% or 25 permits, governmental buildings 31% (24 permits) and the industrial buildings as workshops and factories 21% (16 permits).Qatar saw a strong 50% year-on-year expansion in the total building completion certificates issued in November 2022 with Al Daayen registering a 73% growth, Umm Slal (72.7%), Doha (66.1%), Al Rayyan (49.4%), Al Shahaniya (25%) and Al Khor (7.1%).A total of 513 building completion certificates were issued in November 2022, of which 385 or 75% was for the new buildings (residential and non-residential) and 128 or 25% for additions.Of the total number of new building completion certificates issued in the review period, Al Daayen constituted 25% or 128 certificates, Al Rayyan 24% or 124, Doha 20% or 103, Al Wakra 17% or 86, Umm Slal 7% or 38, Al Khor 3% or 15, Al Shahaniya 2% or 10 and Al Shamal 2% or nine certificates.Of the 296 residential buildings completion certificates issued, as many as 221 or 75% were for villas, 59 or 20% for apartments and 11 or 4% for dwellings of housing loans.Of the 221 villas completion certificates issued this November, as many as 63 were in Al Daayen, 59 in Al Rayyan, 32 in Umm Slal, 27 in Al Wakra, 24 in Doha, seven each in Al Khor and Al Shamal, and two in Al Shahaniya.In the case of 59 apartments, Al Rayyan issued 21 certificates, Doha 19, Al Daayen 13, Al Khor and Al Wakra (two each) and Al Shamal (one).
