Qatar, Saudi stress maritime security
HE the Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim al-Thani and Saudi Foreign Minister Prince Faisal bin Farhan bin Abdullah al-Saud stressed the need to safeguard freedom of navigation in the Arabian Gulf and the Red Sea during talks in Riyadh yesterday. They said protecting vital maritime corridors was essential to ensuring the smooth flow of international trade and promoting regional security and stability. The two reviewed bilateral relations and ways to strengthen them, alongside efforts to expand joint action across various fields. The two sides also discussed regional developments, diplomatic efforts to prevent escalation and contain tensions, and the latest situation in the Gaza Strip and the occupied Palestinian territories. They underlined the importance of continued co-ordination between Qatar and Saudi Arabia and of aligning their positions on current developments to support regional security and stability. Both sides backed efforts to resolve disputes through diplomatic means and called for greater co-ordination between regional and international initiatives to defuse tensions and promote dialogue. They reiterated Qatar and Saudi Arabia’s condemnation of Israel’s declared rejection of the roadmap for completing the implementation of US President Donald Trump’s comprehensive plan to end the Gaza conflict, endorsed by UN Security Council Resolution 2803, as well as its rejection of the establishment of a Palestinian state.
