While preparing to host the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022, the Public Works Authority (Ashghal) has completed the works of rainwater drainage network on roads around Al Sadd Sports Club while repaving of Talha bin Khaled Street which connects Al Shammal Road with Sabah Al Ahmad Corridor, Ahmad Bin Taymiyah Street to link Salwa Road to Al Waab Road. While announcing the completion, Eng. Khaled Al Khayarin, Drainage Networks Projects Department Manager at Ashghal, said the works were carried as part of Ashghal’s preparations for the World Cup and they aim to protect the roads surrounding the club, training stadiums and fan zones from rainwater accumulations while finding sustainable solutions to protect the properties such as schools and mosques.


Works included re-paving and rehabilitating roads, developing parking lots and providing road markings. Also, sidewalks and pedestrian paths were set up in addition to the entrances for buses, special needs paths while maintaining its aesthetic appearance.
