Governor of the Eastern Province in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia Prince Saud bin Nayef bin Abdulaziz said that the new Salwa border crossing would primarily contribute to enhancing vehicle and passenger traffic, in addition to promoting trade volume exchange and economic relations between Saudi Arabia and Qatar.
This came during the visit of the governor to the new Salwa border crossing Monday during which he inspected the trial operation of the passengers' section of the crossing.
For his part, Governor of Zakat, Tax and Customs Authority of Saudi Arabia Eng. Suhail bin Mohamed Abanmi said that the new Salwa border crossing project has been fully equipped with the essential integrated services and utilities for the clearance of all passing vehicles and passengers, affirming that the border crossing would represent a vital factor in enhancing vehicle and passenger traffic, in addition to promoting trade volume and economic relations between the two countries.
The capacity of new Salwa border crossing has risen to 12,096 arriving vehicles, and 12,726 departing vehicles, per day. However, the capacity of the old crossing was limited to 3,000 vehicles only.
