Doha
Former long-time Qatar resident Dr Abraham Kollamana passed away on Saturday. He was 74.
Dr Abraham died in his hometown Thiruvalla in the southern Indian state of Kerala. Sources close to his family said that he was undergoing treatment following renal failure.
Dr Abraham, who was actively involved in community activities in Qatar, left Doha in 2019 after retiring from his job as a physician.
A member of the Indian Cultural Centre (ICC) and Indian Community Benevolent Forum (ICBF), Dr Abraham was the founding member of Thiruvalla Friends. "He was an active person and was always available to serve community members in need. He worked at the airport as a physician and later joined the Ministry of Public Health. The Indian community in Qatar owes much to him," said Jiji John, a Doha resident and friend of Dr Abraham.
ICC president P N Baburajan remembered Dr Abraham as a "doctor offering his services to the community and a socially active person".
Expressing his profound grief and sadness, the ICC president said in a statement said: "Dr Abraham Kollamana, a professional, socio-cultural activist, was working with the Ministry of Public Health since the 1970s as a doctor offering his services to the community.
"On my personal behalf, as a close friend and on behalf of ICC, I convey our heartfelt condolences to Dr Abraham's family and friends. Pray to the Almighty to give enough strength to family, friends, near and dear ones to bear the loss."
Dr Abraham was a management committee member of ICC from 1999-2001, and vice-president of ICBF from 2008-10. He made highly appreciable contributions to the apex bodies despite his busy schedule as a medical professional, Baburajan added.
Dr Abraham was one of the founders of the Indian National Cultural and Arts Society (INCAS), Qatar chapter. "We extend our condolences to the family and the relatives of Dr Abraham and pray for the eternal peace of the departed soul," a statement by INCAS Qatar president Haider Chungathara said.
