Indian expatriate forum AMU Alumni Association Qatar (AMUAAQ), observed the World Blood Donor Day as a part of India@75 (Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav) celebrations. A blood donation camp was held in association with Hamad Medical Corporation's Blood Donor Centre recently.
Indian embassy first secretary (culture and education) Sachin Dinkar Shankpal was the chief guest. Community leaders Vinod Nair, Ravishankar, Nihad Ali, Sabith Saheer, Khaja Nizamuddin, Vaquas Ahmad, Rakesh Aggarwal, Swarn Singh, Mohamed Musthafa and Kuldeep Kaur Bahl were the other guests.
Blood Donor Centre's medical manager Sadika al-Mahmoudi appreciated the AMUAAQ initiative and requested to prepare a donor directory with blood groups of all volunteers who would be willing to donate blood during the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 as a contingency plan. AMUAAQ president Dr Nadeem Jilani assured her of all possible support.
Dr Jilani explained that blood donation is a safe process. Anyone can donate blood in a few steps.
On an average around 350ml to 450ml blood is extracted, which is usually replaced by the body in 24-48 hours. The red blood cells are replaced automatically within four to six weeks.
AMUAAQ chairman Jawed Ahmad lauded the donors. In a special discussion, AMUAAQ ladies wing vice president Dr Ashna Nusrat spoke about the World Blood Donor Day and the benefits of blood donation.
AMUAAQ vice president Mohammed Faisal Naseem said the forum has decided to organise and support blood donation camps during the World Cup as per HMC plan.
Dr Jilani appreciated the managing committee and members Mohammad Farman Khan, Farrukh Farooqi, Mamnoon Ahmad Bangash, Rizwan Ahmad,Mohammed Nayeem, Arshad Parwez, Abad Khan, Dr Nusrat, Farhan Khan, Dr Musharraf Shamim.
He also thanked Alhena Ahmad and Yusuf for handling the registration process under the guidance of Ghazala Yasmeen and Dr Shaima Sadaf.
