Indonesian ambassador Ridwan Hassan met with Qatar's Minister of Culture HE Sheikh Abdulrahman bin Hamad al-Thani, to explore opportunities of increasing cultural co-operation between the two countries.
The envoy in particular expressed his appreciation for choosing Indonesia to be the partner country in the Year of Culture (YoC) 2023, it was explained in a statement from the embassy yesterday.
Indonesia is the first Association of Southeast Asian country to become a partner in the YoC event.
“YoC is an important momentum for Indonesia-Qatar co-operation. For Indonesia, the YoC is not only about cultural co-operation per se, but it must also have an economic effect,” said Hassan.
YoC activities will last for a full year and contain dozens of activities in the fields of film, fashion, education, sports to youth exchanges. "These activities will not only be held in Qatar but also in Indonesia," added the envoy.
According to the Indonesian embassy statement, HE Sheikh Abdulrahman expressed his confidence that the cultural co-operation between the two countries will improve in the coming years. He perceived Indonesia as a big country with great potential. YoC 2023 would be a great opportunity for the two countries to promote their cultures to the world.
