The Shura Council condemned Wednesday the assassination of Palestinian journalist Shireen Abu Akleh, an Al Jazeera correspondent, near Jenin refugee camp in the West Bank, and the injury of another journalist, by the Israeli occupation forces, QNA reported.
The Shura Council described the assassination of Abu Akleh as a "heinous crime" against the press which seeks the truth, and a clear violation of the international humanitarian law.
HE Speaker of the Shura Council Hassan bin Abdullah al-Ghanim said in a statement to Qatar News Agency (QNA) that this crime aims to prevent the media from carrying out its message. HE the Speaker of the Shura Council, in his name and on behalf of the members of the Shura Council, condemned in the strongest terms this heinous crime committed against the press that seeks the truth, and held the Israeli occupation authorities fully accountable for it. He called on the parliaments of the world to condemn this crime and to press for an international investigation in which the perpetrator receives the deserved punishment. He also expressed his sincere condolences and sympathy to the family of the deceased, to all those working in the field of press, and to all the Palestinian people.
