The Ministry of Culture concluded Thursday the activities of Doha Capital of Culture in the Islamic World 2021, which was hosted by Qatar under the slogan "Our Culture is Light", over the course of a year, under the supervision of the Ministry of Culture and in co-operation with the Islamic World Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation (ISESCO) and the Qatar National Committee for Education, Culture and Science.
The Ministry of Culture organised a special celebration for the occasion, on the sidelines of the 31st Doha International Book Fair at Doha Exhibition and Convention Center (DECC), and in the presence of HE Minister of Culture Sheikh Abdulrahman bin Hamad al-Thani, Director General of ICESCO Dr Salim bin Mohamed al-Malik, Minister of Culture of Jordan Haifa al-Najjar and a number of Their Excellencies ambassadors accredited to the country and guests of the ceremony.
In his speech, Sheikh Abdulrahman bin Hamad al-Thani, said that he is pleased to conclude the activities of Doha Capital of Culture in the Islamic World 2021, which witnessed a diverse cultural movement despite the exceptional health conditions experienced by the entire world. The pivotal role of culture was emphasised, which confirms the close link between economic advancement and development on the one hand, and culture on the other hand, adding that countries rise and prosper civilly thanks to their cultures.
He pointed out the keenness of Doha events to translate the qualitative richness of Qatari culture in order to preserve the Islamic culture and enhance its presence in community with its openness to diverse cultures, as Qatar is home to more than 150 communities of different cultures, religions, languages and ethnicities, all of which contribute to the renaissance process.
The minister indicated that the events contributed to achieving positive interaction between intellectuals, creatives and cultural institutions, as it has succeeded in presenting a distinctive image of Qatar culture and civilisational heritage, from which Qatar national identity is nourished, adding that as much as the events worked to enhance cultural identity, it also sought to build bridges of communication with the cultures of Islamic peoples so that culture remains the epitome of rapprochement and coexistence.
Sheikh Abdulrahman bin Hamad al-Thani affirmed the continuation of efforts and giving, because culture is the safety valve of societies, stressing the importance of working to renew its components so that it remains a major role in building mankind and his civilisation, just as the culture in the countries of the Islamic world over the centuries contributed to the enrichment of human civilisation.
At the conclusion of his speech, he valued all the efforts made since the launch of this cultural carnival until its conclusion, expressing his wishes for success for the upcoming capitals events. (QNA)
