Al Rayyan Municipality, represented by the Health Control Section of the Municipal Control Department, carried out 2,700 inspection drives across food establishments in Al Sailiya Central Market, in November and December last year.
According to a statement by the Ministry of Municipality, stores selling vegetables, fruits, fish and meat, slaughterhouses, and all food establishments were covered during the exercise.
During the inspections, 14 seizure reports were issued for violation of Law No. 8 of 1990 regarding the regulation of human food control, and one food establishment closed.
A total of 44 food samples were taken and sent to the central laboratory to ensure their compliance with health specifications.
A total of 121 sorting records of foodstuffs imported from abroad through the ports were also inspected, and complaints received by the unit examined, and legal measures taken.
The competent department also destroyed 207.777 tonnes of vegetables and fruits found unsuitable for human consumption.
