Qatar witnessed a stupendous more than 15-fold year-on-year jump in visitor arrivals, especially from the Gulf Co-operation Council and other Arab countries, reflecting in the hospitality sector, particularly in the three-star and standard categories, during November 2021, according to the official estimates.
The total number of visitor arrivals witnessed an almost 15-fold growth year-on-year to 111,584 people in November 2021. The visitor arrivals showed a 31.6% jump compared to that in October 2021; said the latest estimates from the Planning and Statistics Authority (PSA).
The number of visitors from the GCC was 38,600 in November 2021, witnessing a more than 20-fold growth year-on-year. Such visitors registered 41.6% expansion month-on-month in the review period. The visitors from the Gulf region accounted for 35% of the total in November 2021.
The visitor arrivals measures non-residents travelling to Qatar on a short-term basis for all purposes. It includes arrivals at borders under different 15 visa classes, including all businesses and leisure visa types (excluding work visas).
Of the total 111,584 people arrived, as much as 72% came via airport; as much as 27% by road and the remaining about a% through sea in the review period.
The visitor arrivals from other Asia (including Oceania) stood at 30,595 in November 2021, thus registering more than 10-fold growth year-on-year. On monthly basis, its growth was 6.2%. The visitors from this region accounted for 27% of the total arrivals in November 2021.
The visitor arrivals from the other Arab countries rose almost 15-fold year-on-year to 14,310 in November 2021. It had seen a 67.8% surge month-on-month. The visitors from this region constituted 13% of the total visitor arrivals in November 2021.
The visitor arrivals from the Americas stood at 6,587 in November 2021, which represented a more than 20-fold jump from 322 in November 2020. It had seen a 57.8% expansion on a monthly basis. The visitors from the Americas accounted for 6% of the total in the review period.
The visitor arrivals from the European countries grew almost 14-fold year-on-year to 20,045 in November 2021. It saw a 31.6% rise month-on-month. The visitors from this region accounted for 18% of the total in November 2021.
The visitor arrivals from other African countries grew almost 23-fold year-on-year to 1,447 people in November 2021. On a monthly basis, it shot up 87%. The visitors from this region accounted for 1% of the total in the review period.
The PSA data found that the hotel and hotel apartments showed a robust performance in November with the overall occupancy rate at 70% compared to 57% in November 2020.
In the five-star category, the occupancy was 69% (55% in November 2020), four-star 81% (65%), three-star 90% (65%), and two and one star 80% (68%).
In the case of deluxe hotel apartments, the occupancy was 55% compared to 53% the previous year period and standard hotel apartments 86% (55%).
