Qatar Diabetes Association (QDA), a member of Qatar Foundation, launched Monday the 22nd International Diabetes camp virtually which will conclude Wednesday.
Over three days, 40 children with diabetes aged 7 to 11 from nine diabetes associations from Qatar, Sudan, Egypt, Algeria, Morocco, Jordan, Palestine, Lebanon, and Pakistan will have a fully interactive camp experience, meet other children living with Type 1 diabetes and the qualified medical team of QDA, to have an amazing opportunity to learn about diabetes including self-monitoring blood glucose, insulin injection, insulin pump, carb counting, foot care, and exercise & diabetes. The children also will share experiences and enjoy games and quizzes.
Dr Abdulla al-Hamaq, executive director, QDA, said: “Despite Covid-19 circumstances, we are happy to continue supporting our children living with diabetes through many ways. The QDA online camps allow the children to engage in the learning process and in the discussions of diabetes management with our medical team. We're bringing the spirit of the residential camps right into their own homes as some of them have never been to a camp in person.”
The first Al-Bawasil camp was held in January 1999 and it has been held every year since then, and is now one of the most important camp for children living with diabetes in the Middle East and North Africa region.
