The Shura Council held Monday its regular weekly meeting under the chairmanship of HE Speaker of the Council Hassan bin Abdullah al-Ghanim.
At the beginning of the session, the council praised the participation of His Highness the Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad al-Thani in the 42nd session of the Supreme Council of the Cooperation Council for the Arab States of the Gulf (GCC) held in Riyadh, and his keenness on the unity of the Gulf and its bond.
The Council also expressed its pride in the successful organisation of the FIFA Arab Cup Qatar 2021, considering that the success of the tournament is evidence of the readiness of operations and facilities for the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022. The Council welcomed this achievement, stressing that it was the fruit and culmination of sound planning, the national will, and the comprehensive strategic vision whose foundations and objectives were laid down by His Highness the Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad al-Thani to lead the march of the renaissance of our beloved country.

In addition, the session's work continued as HE Secretary-General of the Shura Council Ahmed bin Nasser al-Fadhala read the meeting's agenda and ratified the last meeting's minutes. At the beginning of the deliberations, HE the Speaker of the Shura Council briefed the members of the Council on the issues referred by the Council's office and submitted by a number of members related to inquiries related to the retirement law, and questions about education and the promotion of national values and identity. The Council decided to refer the inquiries to the Council's office to take the appropriate action.
The Council also reviewed the two topics related to the contribution of digital technology in enhancing the Council's competencies and regulating performance. After discussing the two mentioned issues, and reviewing their details, the Council decided to refer them to the temporary committee to study and analyse the electoral programs of the Shura Council's candidates to study them and submit its report in the next session.
Afterward, the Council reviewed the report of the participation of the Shura Council delegation headed by HE Deputy Speaker of the Council Dr Hamda bint Hassan al-Sulaiti in the 16th session of the Arab Group of the Parliamentary Union of the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) Member States (PUIC) held in Istanbul, Turkey, on Dec 9 and 10, and the approval of the nomination of the representatives of the State of Qatar in the committees of PUIC, HE Khalid bin Ahmed al-Obaidan and HE Mubarak bin Mohamed al-Kuwari, members of the Council, in the General Committee of the Conference, and the nomination of HE Ali bin Shabib al-Attiyah, a member of the Council, was approved in the Permanent Committee for Economic Affairs and Environment in the Federation.
In this regard, the Council praised the participation. They noted the importance of the topics discussed by the session related to Palestine, immigration, Afghanistan, and issues of the Islamic nation. The Council highlighted its importance in participating in such events, and emphasised Qatar's firm position on the Palestinian issue and issues related to strengthening international peace and security, and resolving conflicts and wars through dialogue and peaceful negotiation.
The members also praised the adoption of the Council's candidates in the work of the next session pointing to the important role of this type of active participation in international forums, to enhance the Council's position and highlight its role in the regional and international arenas, and its effective contribution to the decisions made by the PUIC.
