The British Council Qatar has announced its Qatar Environment Champions Programme in partnership with the Ministry of Education and Higher Education (MoEHE), Arab Youth Climate Movement Qatar and Qatar Green Building Council supporting young activists in the country to implement projects that can create a greener, more sustainable world.
In line with the activities at the United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP26) in Glasgow, UK from October 32 to November 11, the programme will look to raise awareness and encourage Qatari society to do their part to tackle global warming.
Sam Ayton, British Council Qatar country director, said: “The climate crisis can only be addressed through co-operation and joint action. We are therefore very pleased to deliver the Qatar Environment Champions programme with our partners, bringing together local initiatives, young people and communities and support their efforts on driving Climate Change action in legacy of COP26 and beyond. If together we take social action and spread awareness, we can and will address the challenge of climate change.”
Hissa al-Aali, director of Training and the Educational Development Centre, MoEHE said: “The Qatar Environment champions programme aims at consolidating a culture of sustainability in educational institutions and tackling challenges in the field of education."
Neeshad Shafi, executive director Arab Youth Climate Movement Qatar described the programme as a one of a kind training that works towards building new aspiring youth climate and environment leaders in Qatar.
